Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Operations
David A. Harr
David Harr was named associate vice president for auxiliary operations effective July 1, 2011, reporting directly to the University’s executive vice president, Dr. John Affleck-Graves. During his 23 years at the University, he has served on the senior leadership team in the office of business operations as the associate vice president, assistant vice president, and director of The Morris Inn. Mr. Harr’s current oversight responsibilities include a diverse group of revenue-generating auxiliary units that support student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives while providing a culture of hospitality and service excellence to all. His leadership extends to more than 850 full-time staff.
Mr. Harr oversees the operations of food services, a varied mix of on-campus residential dining, retail restaurants, vending, and catering operations; the Notre Dame licensing department managing commercial use of the University’s trademarks; Notre Dame Conference Center, a 70,000 square-foot meeting facility; The Morris Inn, a 92-room full service hotel; Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore and campus retail operations, provider of course related materials, apparel and gifts; Auxiliary Services, which oversees Cedar Grove Cemetery, a 22-acre on-campus private cemetery, as well as ND Marketplace, providing campus organizations with a secure and cost-effective way to extend their business operations to the internet; St. Michael's Laundry, a 30,000 square-foot laundry, dry cleaning, and linen leasing facility; and University concession operations, which provide food and beverages to the Notre Dame Stadium, Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center, Compton Family Ice Arena, the Warren Golf Course, The Irish Green and all Olympic sports stadia.
He currently serves as chairman of the University’s Licensing and Bookstore Advisory Committees. His new committee assignments include appointments to Team APEX for Operational Excellence and the Committee on Senior Leadership Development, and a working committee for Advancing Our Vision. He also serves as a planning and logistics officer for the University’s Campus and Emergency Preparedness Team.
Mr. Harr has stayed active with professional and community activities, including terms on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce of St. Joseph County, City of South Bend’s Century Center, Indiana Hotel Lodging Association, and St. Joseph County Hotel/Motel Tax Board. Additionally, Mr. Harr has served as an adjunct instructor at both Indiana University at South Bend and Suffolk Community College in Riverhead, New York. He was awarded a Key to the City of South Bend by then Mayor, and former Governor of Indiana, Joseph E. Kernan. In 2008, he received a University Presidential Values Award that honors staff who exemplify the University of Notre Dame’s mission and core values.
A native of the Philadelphia area, Mr. Harr holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Bloomsburg University and a master of business administration from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to joining the University, he managed numerous properties for hospitality companies.
David and his wife, June, have two children; Megan, a sophomore at Saint Mary’s College and D.J., a senior at Penn High School.
