Auxiliary Operations

Auxiliary Operations is a major contributor of revenue to the University’s mission. Led by Dave Harr, the division includes Campus Dining, Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore, the Morris Inn and Notre Dame Conference Center, University Licensing, St. Michael’s Laundry, Cedar Grove Cemetery, ND Marketplace, and Concessions. 

The diverse division supports student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives while serving as the University's lead in campus hospitality and customer service. Auxiliary Operations employs the largest number of staff on campus with over 2,100 full-time, part-time, temporary, on-call, and contract staff.

Campus Dining

The largest unit in Auxiliary Operations, Campus Dining is self-operated and consists of a residential dining program that provides over two million meals annually to the 6,400 students on campus meal plans, as well as countless others. Additionally, it features 19 retail units. University Catering services over 8,000 events a year as well ascoin-operated food and beverage concessions and laundry vending. The department provides resident food service for the Congregation of Holy Cross, which includes two residences, a seminary, and a nursing home as well as service for the campus student health center and child care center.

Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore and Retail Operations

Managed by Follett Higher Education Group, Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore and Retail Operations provide textbooks and course-related materials, trade books, merchandise, religious gifts, and apparel for students, faculty, staff, visitors and legions of fans. Campus retail operations include the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore in the Eck Center; the Hammes Hub at the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore; the Hammes Bookstore and Cafe on Eddy Street; the Leep Varsity Shop at Purcell Pavilion; the Dellelce Irish Hockey Shop at Compton Family Ice Arena; the Catalog Fulfillment Center; the Clearance Center; and the Notre Dame Shop on Michigan Avenue, Chicago. The Catalog Fulfillment Center distributes two catalogs per year to over 350,000 homes and sends out over 100,000 packages per year to destinations around the world.

Morris Inn and Notre Dame Conference Center

The Morris Inn is a full-service hotel that was expanded and renovated in 2013. It increased in size by 65,500 square feet and now features 150 guest rooms, including 18 suites; a 300-seat ballroom; Sorin's restaurant for fine dining; Rohr's, a 100-seat tavern; four private dining rooms, and the Wind Family Fireside Terrace. Shortly after reopening in August, 2013, the hotel received AAA's Four Diamond designation and has now received the award for the fourth consecutive year. Only 5 percent of hotels receive Four Diamond distinction.The Notre Dame Conference Center at McKenna Hall hosts more than 1,200 events annually, including national and international academic conferences; training seminars; board meetings; lectures; departmental meetings and wedding receptions. The Center offers 12 state-of-the-art meeting rooms; a 350-seat auditorium equipped for simultaneous translation; dedicated technological assistance; a business center; a 200-seat spacious dining room; and foreign language translation in up to 14 different languages. It is the only IACC-certified conference facility in the area.

Licensing

The Licensing Department is responsible for management of the University's trademark licensing program. It protects the University by assisting in the prevention of unauthorized use of trademarks, ensures authorized products bearing University trademarks are manufactured under acceptable working conditions by companies that have adopted the University's Licensing Code of Conduct, and provides education and support to campus constituents, retailers and Notre Dame licensees.

St. Michael’s Laundry

Opened in 1934 for the University community, and now for the surrounding city area as well, St. Michael's Laundry offers full service dry and wet cleaning; tailoring/alterations; shoe repair; linen rental; wedding dress cleaning and preservation; and VIP 24-hour drop-off and same day service. availability. Additionally, laundry service offered exclusively to University departments includes athletic uniforms and towels; ROTC uniforms; bed, bath and table linen lease programs to Morris Inn and residence halls; uniform rental and purchase programs; religious community linens and personal garments; student health center linens; Early Childhood Development Center linens and the processing of  mops and rags for all departments.The laundry's student bundle service averages 35,000 pieces of clothing washed every week, contributing to the 2.7 million total pounds cleaned annually.

Notre Dame Clubs and Concessions 

Notre Dame athletic clubs and concessions are managed by Levy Restaurants. Levy oversees operations in Notre Dame Stadium; Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center; Compton Family Ice Arena; the Warren Golf Course; Arlotta Lacrosse Stadim; Alumni Soccer Stadium; Frank Eck Baseball Stadium and Melissa Cook Softball Stadium. 

Campus Card Office

The Campus Card Office oversees I.D. card production and provides identification, security and the convenience of contactless card technology to the Notre Dame community.

Cedar Grove Cemetery

Established in 1843 by the Congregation of Holy Cross, Cedar Grove Cemetery's mission is to provide a dignified, Christian burial for members of the Notre Dame community and their families. Formerly available to faculty, staff and retirees only, above-ground burial options in the Our Lady of Sorrows at Cedar Grove Cemetery Mausoleum Complex are now extended to Notre Dame alumni and their families as well as members of Sacred Heart Parish.
