Beginning June 1, 2018, all departments, organizations and groups that plan to setup a stage, tent, or canopy on campus will need to complete the Application for Stages, Tents, and Canopies form 30 days before the event. The application form is available on the Risk Management and Safety website.

This new policy ensures that the University complies with all state laws and obtains the proper state permits in a timely manner for stages, tents, and canopies, and that they are properly installed, routinely inspected, and do not present a hazard.

This new policy applies to the following sizes of stages, tents, and canopies:

  • Any stage with a platform that is 48 inches high or higher and 1,000 square feet or larger, or any trailer-mounted stage that is larger than 600 square feet.
  • Any tent that is 200 square feet or larger (10 ft. x 20 ft.),
  • Any canopy that is 400 square feet or larger (e.g. 20 ft. x 20 ft.)
