E I Cloud Strategy Award 2019

The University of Notre Dame was the recipient of an E&I Cooperative Services (E&I) Cloud Leadership Award on Oct. 16 during a ceremony at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

Notre Dame’s Office of Information Technologies (OIT) received an award in the Public/Private Cloud Security category for creating an AWS (Amazon Web Services) account governance and security model that ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the cloud. The model utilizes native AWS services to monitor, audit and integrate with other enterprise tools such as Service Now to securely manage accounts.

“The security and privacy of information continues to be a top priority in higher education,” said John Gohsman, Vice President for Information Technologies and Chief Information Officer, University of Notre Dame. “Through the dedication and hard work of our IT staff, we continue to look for cloud-based solutions to help deliver secure, flexible and responsive IT services to better serve our faculty, staff and students.”

The E&I Cloud Leadership Awards were originated in 2017 by E&I Cooperative Services, as a way to recognize technology leaders and their innovative cloud-based solutions in the higher education market. Cloud computing enables students, teachers, administrators and staff to reliably access information, collaborate, create and deliver content from anywhere, anytime.

“We are honored to have our work in developing this important model was recognized by fellow IT leaders and professionals in higher education,” Gohsman said. “This model has the potential to be used by other universities looking to better secure their own environments as well.”
